Creating Space to Think About Your Career
Once a year, I try to get away for a short trip on my own. While it’s only for a day or two and I don’t venture far from home, these escapes couldn’t feel more different from my usual life. As a mom of two young kids (plus two pets!) and a business owner, much of my time is spent in “go” mode, juggling seemingly endless lists of tasks, shuttling between work and life responsibilities, and managing the mental load that comes along with it all.
10 Things We're Celebrating At 10 Years
We've spent this month celebrating the 10 year anniversary of Careers for Social Impact. My Latest Work Slump - And How I Got Out Of It
In 2021, I thought my days as a business owner might be numbered. Careers for Social Impact was thriving, but I wasn't. I was in a work slump. Luckily I was able to work my way out of it, and today I want to share what that process looked like, what I learned, and how that impacts the...
What I Learned From A Week On My Own
For the past week I've been on my own. My husband and kids went out of town, and I stayed behind to work and finish prepping for a trip we have coming up. The cat and dog are staying with family - so I was truly on my own, for the first time in over nine years. That’s right: for the first time in almost a decade I had a week with...

The Power of Rest
If there’s one thing we’ve learned these past few years, it’s that rest is essential to persist through the challenges life consistently throws at us. Why I Don't Make New Year's Resolutions (And What I Do Instead)
How’s that fresh start going for you? I don’t know about you, but I’ve had lots of ups and downs this first week of the new year: bursts of energy and motivation as well as exhaustion and mental fog. Coming back from time off is always challenging, and I tried to cut myself some slack and go easy on my schedule this week...
The Power of Reconnecting With What You Love
This past weekend I ran my first race in over three years. I certainly wasn’t in it to win it, but I was racing against myself and trying to prove that I could get back out there after several years of de-prioritizing my own health and fitness. It did make me wonder though: why did almost 8,000 people join me on Sunday to...
You Don't Need To Have It All Figured Out
Seven years ago this week, I stepped into the unknown and started my first independent consulting project. At the time, I thought I’d just be doing a few projects as I looked for my next full-time role; I had no idea that I was planting the seeds of what would become Careers for Social Impact and the next chapter of my career. Looking back, there were a few hints...

When Will It End? What to Do When Your Job Search Takes Longer Than You Thought

Why I Hired A Coach, and What I Learned
I recently worked with a business coach. “Why would a coach need to hire their own coach?”, you may be asking. For the same reason a doctor can’t treat herself of course! I had come to a point where I was feeling stuck with some decisions I had to make in my business, and I knew I needed help.
